Extended Day Art

Art is a natural means of communication and a great source of enjoyment for young children.  As children express themselves with a variety of art materials, they gain a better understanding of what they know and feel.  In addition, learning about the basic elements of art and viewing the art of others promotes a heightened awareness of the visual world around us.

GOALS:

     1. To promote confidence and enjoyment in creating with art materials
     2. To provide opportunities for self-expression through the communication of
         thoughts and feelings
     3. To enable the children to gain increased control over tools, materials and techniques

CONTENT:

A wide variety of techniques, materials and processes are introduced in our art sessions.  The children are given many opportunities to experiment and to make new discoveries.  This enables them to build confidence in their own abilities, exercise decision-making, create intentional outcomes and learn the value of art making.

Throughout the year, experiences in art will involve the following:  cutting, gluing, drawing, painting, assembling, mono-printmaking, photography and making collages with a variety of media.  Specific projects will be designed to help the children learn about color, shape, line, pattern and form.
