Research Assistantships

Research Assistantships are designed for students interested in working on a targeted research project in a laboratory setting.

We establish research assistantships for our most motivated and interested science students. These experiences are invaluable in helping our students make informed decisions about pursuing careers in science. Of primary importance to us in making these placements is the quality of both the learning experience and the interactions with scientific professionals.

Research Assistantships involve:

  • Research of entity funding the research project so that the student can briefly write-up
    1. how the organization stays in existence (revenue/expenses)
    2. who counts as “clients”
    3. similar organizations in other nearby market
  • Regular working sessions in lab at a mutually agreed upon interval, in the range of 2 days per week, 2 hours per day
  • Written interim report describing the work accomplished in the lab, strengths and weaknesses of her performance and of the assistantship itself
  • Multimedia report on what the assistantship entailed. The report will be delivered at the culminating Protege colloquium.

We are indebted to professional scientists at Case Western Reserve Univerisity, Cleveland State University, Hiram College, John Carroll University and the Cleveland Clinic, in addition to several engineering firms. Laurel students also participate in formal summer programs at NASA Glenn Research Center.
