Courses and Programs for Adults
Fall 2014 

Laurel School’s Community-Based Programming extends the scope of traditional learning in collaboration with The Siegal Lifelong Learning Program at Case Western Reserve University and the Cleveland Museum of Art. Adults from across the Cleveland community are invited to experience the dynamic and engaging instruction which our superb faculty offer our students every day. 

THE ADULT STUDIO ART PROGRAM IN THE COUNTRY

This fall, the program features three adult studio workshops at Laurel School’s Butler Campus in Russell Township, OH, and one workshop at Laurel School’s Lyman Campus in Shaker Heights, OH. 

Tiles and Mosaics
Mondays, 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM
September 15 – October 20, 2014 (no class on Columbus Day)
George Woideck – Laurel School’s Butler Campus

Explore the ceramic spirit of the Mediterranean.  Projects include majolica tile and glass and broken tile mosaic, plus tips on installing and grouting.  Supplies are included in the registration fee.  Cost: $260

Metals:  Working with Wire
Wednesdays, 6:30 PM – 9:30 PM
October 1 – October 22, 2014
Catherine Butler, Laurel School’s Lyman Campus

Explore working with steel, brass or copper wire and make either jewelry or objects, starting with specific given projects, then moving on in individual directions.  No previous experience needed.  Supplies are included in the registration fee:  Cost: $170

Re-discovering the Classics:  The Iliad
Saturdays, 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM
September 13 – November 8, 2014

The Iliad by Homer is the first work of western literature and more than 2500 years later this epic poem remains relevant.  This course offers a guided reading of what can sometimes be a difficult text.  Participants will have the opportunity to engage in a close reading and analysis of the poem and discuss various aspects of it, including style, historical context, and its significance within the literary canon.  Cost: $95

ADULT COOKING CLASSES

If you have a passion for food and a craving to learn, experience our new hands on cooking class led by our very own chefs from Sage Dining Services.  Menus will focus on using local, sustainable sources and will consist of three courses including an appetizer, entree and dessert.  Participants may invite a guest for the final class to enjoy a delicious celebration dinner.  Cost $350/session 4 Classes Per Session - Registration Opening Soon

HEALTH & FITNESS FOR ADULTS

BARRE FITNESS CLASSES

Saturdays, 9:00 - 10:00 a.m.
Classes begin September 6, 2014
Multipurpose Room, Laurel School's Lyman Campus

Inspired by yoga, Pilates and ballet, this workout provides a unique combination of dynamic movement and isometric holds with a focus on strength, higher energy and posture. This is a low-impact workout that uses optional props (light hand weights and a core ball) and is set to a fun playlist. Dress to move, yoga pants are perfect, and bring a mat and water.

We are pleased to be able to offer Laurel’s 16,000 Square Foot Butler Fitness Center as a resource to our Laurel families as well as their friends and neighbors.  Laurel’s Strength & Conditioning Coach, Dan Dvorak, will provide you with an individualized plan to help you meet your fitness goals. 

Adults:
$120/annually non-refundable

Siblings:
$60/annually non-refundable *for 18 and under

Mornings:

Wednesdays and Fridays:           8:00 am - Noon
Saturdays:                                  9:00 am – Noon

Evenings:
Monday through Thursday          6:00 pm – 7:00 pm
*Hours will vary due to holidays and school closures. Changes will be posted at the Fitness Center and registered members will be notified via email.
