Application deadlines Meeting deadlines is crucial. The general rule is that students must provide all materials to the College Guidance Office two weeks before the college application deadline. Applications are processed in the order received. The College Guidance Office cannot ensure timely submission of materials received after Laurel deadlines. Teachers set their own recommendation schedules; students must coordinate with teachers to ensure recommendations are timely requested and received in the College Guidance Office.
Application tracking Student applications are tracked both electronically and in the College Application Notebook maintained in the College Guidance Office. Every senior is responsible to fill out and update her College Application Tracking Form in the application notebook. Every time an entry or change is made on the form, it must be submitted to the College Guidance Office to allow an update of all records.
Application processing A completed College Application Checklist must accompany each application submitted to the College Guidance Office. The student fills out all items in bold. It is the student's responsibility to ensure the office receives copies of all college applications submitted, including those submitted online. The office will prepare and mail a package including teacher and counselor recommendations, secondary school report, transcript, test scores and information regarding Laurel. A postcard will be included for the college to return indicating receipt. A college may contact a student indicating a required item is missing. This information will only be sent to the student. It is the student's responsibility to notify the College Guidance Office immediately so that the office can provide duplicate materials.
Online submission Most colleges and universities encourage electronic submission of applications, particularly those who accept the Common Application. Before submitting anything online, print out and carefully review the application. Review the application package in detail to ensure you have addressed every question and proofed every answer. If using the Common Application double check both the Common Application website, www.commonapp.org and the college website to make sure any supplemental submissions are included. Print all applications submitted online and provide them to the College Guidance Office.
