    Community Days in Grades 6-12

    The 2022-23 school year brings a new tradition to Laurel School: Community Days. Community Days are for Grades 6-12 and aim to strengthen community within our building, work to make an impact on the various communities in which we belong and help individuals to feel a sense of purpose when leaving. Each community day includes service, gratitude and a sense of spirit.  The second Community Day took place on November 8 and focused on our "local" community. The day centered around being in the moment and giving back, whether it was through service or being a part of a team.

  • Community Day, Laurel School

    Fifth Grade Invasive Species Removal

    Laurel students in Fifth Grade have been working hard to better the environment and our ecosystem by removing invasive species plaguing the Butler community and greater Northeast Ohio. Common Buckthorn and Wild Teasel were identified as a major issue surrounding our Butler Campus by a volunteer from Doan Brook Watershed Partnership. Buckthorn is extremely invasive via the production, dispersal, and germination of its many seeds, which female shrubs start producing at a young age.

  • Community Day, Laurel School

    Primary School Partners with Meals on Wheels

    Laurel Girls in Kindergarten-Grade 2 have embarked on a yearlong partnership with Meals On Wheels of Shaker Heights. Meals on Wheels delivers homemade meals several times each week to clients who are residents of Shaker, Beachwood, and University Heights, who do not have the ability to cook an entire meal for themselves due to a lack of mobility or resources.

    In Laurel’s Early Childhood School, our students know kindness counts. During a Kindness Conversation led by Laurel School’s Director of Multi-Cultural Education, Lauren Calig, Early Childhood girls and small boys discover why it matters to care for and be kind to others.
