As part of Laurel’s Upper School’s curriculum, D3 (Dream. Dare. Do.) Service Learning Days invite our girls to spend an afternoon volunteering at a local organization. Students involved with the D3 programming have volunteered with organizations such as MedWish, the Jennings Center, WomenSafe and EDWINS Leadership and & Restaurant Institute. Two experiences are highlighted below.
In the Middle School, Laurel girls work on many service learning projects throughout the year. In one such project, our girls hosted a Cookie Bake Sale to raise money to support Clean the World, an organization that addresses global health issues through recycling discarded hygiene supplies from the hospitality industry.
Every year in the Primary School, Laurel girls decorate placemats and create centerpieces for Meals on Wheels to spread Thanksgiving cheer to those that the organization serves. The Fourth Graders joined their Kindergarten buddies to work together to practice collaboration and teamwork while the Second and Third Graders worked in their own classrooms, creating pieces that will be cherished throughout the holiday.
In Laurel’s Pre-Primary School, our students know kindness counts. During a Kindness Conversation led by Laurel School’s Director of Multi-Cultural Education, Lauren Calig, Pre-Primary girls and small boys discover why it matters to care for and be kind to others. Take a peek inside an important aspect of our Pre-Primary curriculum.
