Laurel School Nurse's Office

The School Nurse is responsible for the administering Laurel’s Health Services program, supporting students’ primary care, and providing expert care and comfort to students who become sick or injured during the school day.

Illness

The single most effective prevention against the spread of germs and disease is hand washing.
If your child is not feeling well, please keep her/him home. Sending a sick child to school puts our students, faculty and staff at risk.
If your child has had a fever over 99.9 they MUST stay home for 24 hours. They may return when they are fever-free for 24 hours without the aid of medication.
If your child has vomited they MUST stay home for 24 hours. They may return when they are vomit-free for 24 hours without the aid of medication.

If your child has diarrhea they MUST stay home for 24 hours. They may return when they are diarrhea-free for 24 hours without the aid of medication.
If your child is being tested for strep throat they must remain out of school until the test results are confirmed from the physician’s office. (See Handbook).
Please report any communicable disease (strep throat, pink eye, head lice, etc.) to the Nurse’s Office immediately so families can be notified. Do not return to school until treatment has occurred or there is documentation that the child is free of communicable disease.
