Pre-Primary School: Kindness Conversation

In Laurel’s Pre-Primary School, our students know kindness counts. During a Kindness Conversation led by Laurel School’s Director of Multi-Cultural Education, Lauren Calig, Pre-Primary girls and small boys discover why it matters to care for and be kind to others. Take a peek inside an important aspect of our Pre-Primary curriculum.
At first, Ms. Calig reminds the Pre-Kindergarteners in Ms. Marshall’s class that we all have different hair colors, heights, languages and even jobs. She reviewed examples of different individuals with different professions and how they might have the same job as someone the students know. Just because someone looks different, doesn’t mean they can’t be a teacher, nurse or firefighter.

The class then read the book, Good People Everywhere by Lynea Gillen, and learned about how doctors, cooks, teachers, dancers and more all bring joy and happiness to others. Ms. Calig and the class discussed how you can be a good person simply by helping your neighbor.

The class took turns sharing how they think they can help others. “I want to be a veterinarian when I grow up to help sick dogs,” shares Lily '33.

Ms. Calig ended the conversation by sharing that, “No matter how small you are, you can do good things.”
