Laurel Partners with Cleveland Leadership Center on City Immersion Experience

Laurel recently participated in a City Immersion Experience with the Cleveland Leadership Center, which offered faculty and staff the opportunity to learn about and engage with organizations in Cleveland that serve underrepresented populations—specifically in this instance, women in children.
Fourteen faculty members gathered bright and early at Bloom Bakery near Public Square. From there, they traveled to the Norma Herr Shelter and learned that most women's shelters are full to capacity in Cleveland. The next stop was the YWCA, a location that has a preschool for homeless children.

In all, they visited ten sites (UH Rainbow & Children Center, Open Doors Academy, Providence House, Detroit Shoreway, Catholic Charities Migration Services, Metrohealth: School Health and Amigas) in an effort to bring a new perspective to how Laurel faculty members look at Cleveland and how as a school community Laurel can actively engage and get more involved. The day ended at the Cleveland Rape Crisis Center learning about the explosion of human trafficking in the area. Each location that they visited offered ways of connecting the Laurel community to the larger Cleveland community.
