Laurel's International Day of the Girl Child Celebration Highlighted in Chagrin Valley Times and Cleveland.com

In honor of International Day of the Girl Child, which took place on October 11, 2019, Laurel hosted a variety of events focused on civic engagement and public service.
A reporter with the Chagrin Valley Times attended the morning panel discussion that included co-authors of the book “Yes She Can: 10 Stories of Hope & Change from Young Female Staffers of the Obama White House,” including Elle Celeste '06, Jenna Brayton, Molly Dillon and Nita Contreras. Sara Bencic '07, current member of the Office of Management and Budget’s health insurance and data analysis branch, also joined the authors for the panel. The resulting article, titled "Laurel Girls Explore the Challenges of Working World," highlighted the panel and other events throughout the day. “There are struggles that you’ll face just for being a woman that others don’t have to deal with,” Ms. Celeste told the students gathered in the school chapel.

The article goes on to highlight the many other civic engagement events that students participated in throughout the day. Bella Patel, Laurel's Director of Strategic Programming and Associate Director of the Primary School, was quoted saying the panel discussions are great opportunities for students to see role models in their potential career paths. Dorothy Bogen '20 and Jane Jusko '21 were also quoted in the story where they spoke about what they hoped to gain from the day's events.

Cleveland.com also highlighted Laurel's Day of the Girl celebrations. Click here to read more.
