Research by Julia Lynn '19 and Rich Kawolics Featured in Ms. Magazine

A recent Ms. Magazine article titled, "Breaking Boundaries in Debate" cites gender disparity research numbers uncovered by Laurel student researcher Julia Lynn '19 and Rich Kawolics, Laurel's Director of Speech and Debate.
Their original research, which looked at 50 debate tournaments nationwide, was published in a 2018 issue of The Rostrum and found that in half of all elimination tournaments, there were all boys in the finals and there was no single tournament with more than one girl in finals, even though 42 percent of the participants identified as female on average.
