Kaitlyn Ernst ‘24 Wins Big at State Science Fair

A big congratulations to Kaitlyn Ernst '24, who earned the highest ranking of "Superior", meaning she scored in the top percentile of projects.
She also earned two sponsored prizes including First Place Governor's Award for Excellence in Environmental Protection Research at the recent States Science Fair, which was held virtually this year. She also earned the Governor's Thomas Edison Award for Advanced or Alternative Energy. Earlier this year Kaitlyn also competed in Districts where she earned two perfect scores from judges and four sponsored awards, the highest number of any individual competitor. One of these awards included the Governor's Award for first place. She was the only Middle School student to earn this coveted honor.

Kaitlyn's winning project took an unused source of heat that would typically contribute to climate change and use it to create needed electricity. As a result of her amazing performance at States, Kaitlyn has been invited to apply for the National Middle School Science Fair, Broadcom MASTERS. She will find out in September if she is invited to participate.

Kaitlyn was featured this summer in Chagrin Valley Times and in The Highland County Press in a piece titled, "STEM Scholars Honored by Lr. Governor Husted, Ohio DSA Director Mihalik."
