Speech and Debate Rocks Cleveland District Novice Tournament and Early Season

Laurel's Upper School Speech and Debate team had an incredible showing at the Cleveland District Novice Tournament on October 24!

 The team took home top awards in each event entered with
Madie Malbasa '24 earning a 2nd Place finish in Original Oratory, Kate Tracanna '24 earning a 2nd Place finish in Lincoln-Douglas Debate, Aya Pinhasi '24 earning a 3rd Place finish in United States Extemporaneous Speaking (and her first "1" of her career!), and Willow Keeney '23 earning 3rd Place in Dramatic Interpretation. All novice debaters won at least one debate!

Through the November tournaments, Ria Raj '21 earned three tournament championships in International Extemporaneous Speaking, Sarah Hatem '21 and Abby McGowan '21 earned two tournament championships in Public Forum Debate, Katherine Cassese '21 and Barbara Yang '21 earned 2nd Place in Policy Debate twice, Esther Ling '23 and Reema Gupta '22 placed in Congressional Debate at two tournaments and Lincoln Douglas Debaters Maggie Chen '23, Caitlin Ludwig '23, Abby Preston '23 and Kaitlyn Ernst '24 took home top places over two tournaments. The season is off to a strong start with more successes to come!
