Laurel Speech and Debate Finishes 7th out of 87 Schools at State Tournament

Laurel Speech and Debate had an incredible showing at the Ohio Speech and Debate Association State Finals and Novice State Tournament!
At States, in Lincoln Douglas Debate, Jane Jusko '21 and Caitlin Ludwig '23 finished in the top 8, Maggie Chen '23 finished in the top 16, and Kaitlyn Ernst '24 finished in the top 32; in Policy Debate, Katherine Cassese '21 and Barbara Yang '21 finished in the top 16; in Public Forum Debate, Sarah Hatem '21 and Abby McGowan '21 finished in the top 32; in Congressional Debate, Esther Ling '23 finished as a Quarterfinalist; and in Humorous Interpretation, Charlotte Davie '22 finished in the top 24. Laurel was recognized as a "School of Excellence in Debate," finishing 7th out of 87 Schools across all Debate events. At the Novice State Finals, a statewide tournament for first-year competitors, Kaitlyn Ernst '24 took home the Tournament Championship in Lincoln Douglas Debate and Aya Pinhasi '24 earned 2nd Place in United States Extemporaneous Speaking. That wraps up our season until our seven National Qualifiers take the stage in June!
