Becky Walker ‘23 Pens Guest Column in Cleveland.com

Becky Walker '23 authored a guest column in Cleveland.com this month where she wrote about a 350-year-old white oak tree that was recently cut down in her neighborhood.
In fact, the tree bordered her property line and was an essential part of [her] childhood. She states that, "Some of its branches stretched over into my yard, and I grew up playing make-believe with our dog under its shade. When our neighbor’s grandkids came to visit, they would invite me to play on the swing they hung from its giant branches. The pride and joy of the neighborhood, the tree was the meeting place for the large reunions, weddings, and gatherings." Not only an important part of Becky's childhood, the tree might have been the oldest living organism in Cuyahoga County and the county's largest white oak. Becky goes on to highlight many of the ways this and other trees benefit the community. Click here to read the full story.
