Dr. Tori Cordiano Weighs in on the Shift from Mommy to Mom in Parents Magazine Story

Dr. Tori Cordiano, Director of Research for Laurel's Center for Research on Girls, was included in a recent Parents Magazine story delving into what happens when kids shift from "Mommy" to "Mom."
She says, "It's a transition many kids make, at varying ages. Lots of kids start to move away from Mommy to Mom when they are in the early elementary school years. That is when children are spending more and more time outside of the home with other kids." She says societal pressures come more into play at that point, and kids start mimicking what they hear from their peers. She also notes in the piece that "kids also take note of what they hear in movies and TV shows."
