Claire Witalec ’27 One of Five Students who Presented at TEDx Hunting Valley Conference

Congratulations to Claire Witalec ’27, who was chosen as one of only six student speakers at the TEDx Hunting Valley Conference on August 22! Cleveland.com and WKYC both highlighted the event and Claire's involvement.

Claire’s presentation stems from the deep, investigative research she has been conducting for her Laurel Capstone Project. Initially exploring the impacts of gerrymandering, Claire spent the past year interviewing state representatives, policy researchers, and community leaders involved with Issue 1, the 2023 Ohio ballot initiative designed to reform district drawing. When she discovered that further state action on gerrymandering had been largely stalled until 2027, Claire adapted her focus to address the broader, crucial topic of voting rights.

Her journey highlights both the spirit of student civic engagement and the dynamic, inquiry-driven nature of Laurel's Capstone program.
