Service Learning and Community Service

Implicit in the Laurel School mission statement is the expectation that each student take an active role in serving the community outside of Laurel School.

To this end, she will complete a minimum of 50 hours of service learning as a requirement for graduation from the Upper School. On average, however, students spend 60+ hours serving their community during their four years in the Upper School.

The Upper School has a Service Learning Board comprised of two senior coordinators and 20 representatives from all four classes. This Board coordinates school-wide initiatives, such as Race for the Cure, Volley for the Cure, Soles4Souls Shoe Drive, Harvest for Hunger Food Drive, Fleece Blanket Donations, School Supply Collection, Hope Totes for Domestic Violence Centers, Red Cross Blood Drive, Wear Red for Heart Health Day, and Relay for Life. The Board also initiates and coordinates initiatives specific to the Upper School.
