Sarah Lyman Day of Community Service

Give back to your community while reconnecting with Laurel alumnae of all ages!
The annual Sarah Lyman Day of Community Service is a multi-city service event at which Laurel alumnae convene for a volunteer project held each fall.
For our 12th Sarah Lyman Day, we will collaborate with nonprofit organizations in Boston, Chicago, Cleveland, Columbus, New York City, Seattle and Washington, D.C.
Join Boston Harbor Now, the Boston Park and Recreation Department, and fellow alumnae to help clean up Moakley Park!
Please wear closed-toed shoes and weather-appropriate clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty. Masks are required. You may also want to bring snacks and a hat, sunscreen, raincoat or jacket depending on the weather. Bottled water and all necessary tools, including gloves, pickers and bags, will be provided.
Meet at the Moakley Park Field House. The closest public transit stop is JFK/UMass station on the Red Line, a 0.6 mile walk.
Join fellow alums at Nourishing Hope (formerly known as the Lakeview Food Pantry) and assist in packing produce and dairy, prepping dry/canned goods in boxes for home delivery.
The mission of the Cleveland Kids’ Book Bank is to foster improved literacy and a love of reading by providing free books to children in need.
Join other alums as we sort through books, batch them and box them for distribution to organizations serving children and families in need.
Please wear comfortable clothes that you don’t mind getting dusty and closed-toed shoes. Bring a water bottle. Feel free to bring gently used children’s books to donate. Volunteers must be age 13 or older. Limit 10 volunteers.
Join other alums at the Mid-Ohio Food Collective On-Site Pantry. Help with the assembly line to pack grocery boxes and load them into customer vehicles at the pantry. There will be different volunteer roles available but all volunteers should wear comfortable clothing and closed-toed shoes.

Join the Fort Tryon Park Trust, NYC Parks and fellow alums to dig in the dirt in Fort Tryon Park!
We will meet at the Broadway Greeting Garden at the Arden Street/Broadway entrance. Please wear long pants, sturdy shoes, and get ready to improve the park’s ecology by removing debris and helping site preparations. Tools and gloves will be provided but please bring a filled water bottle.
Food Lifeline volunteers will help sort and repack bulk donations of food for the hundreds of member food banks, meal programs and shelters that serve over 100,000 meals every day.
Please wear warm layers and closed-toe shoes. Masks required. Alums who RSVP will be sent information about registering with Food Lifeline in advance of the day.
Help Preserve the Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens by getting your hands dirty through pond care, trash cleanups, gardening and more. Please wear comfortable clothes and closed-toed shoes. All tools and gloves will be provided. Bring a water bottle.
