Laurel Director of College Admissions Talks Importance of ACT and SAT Scores for College

Andrew Cruse, Director of College Guidance, was featured in a Cleveland Jewish News story about the importance of ACT and SAT scores when applying to college. Mr. Cruse states that the current testing landscape is partly a reversal of changes that occurred during the pandemic. He says, “Test scores absolutely still matter, and they also matter where they aren’t required.”
While grades are still at the top of the list of things that matter to colleges, the coursework and the level at which those courses are taken is still a top priority for schools.”Colleges look at whether students challenged themselves academically through Advanced Placement, honors or other advanced coursework and how well they performed,” said Mr. Cruse. “Test scores can then provide additional context to a student’s overall academic record.”

Most importantly, Mr. Cruse emphasized that, “At Laurel, we really try to focus on fit and making sure students are finding places where they are going to thrive and be successful.”
