Speech and Debate Season Off to Strong Start

Julia Duong has championed five tournaments this season, including Laurel’s home tournament this month. Claire Witalec has competed on the national circuit this year, advancing to elimination rounds at the National Speech and Debate Season Opener and finishing as runner-up at the Tournament of Champions Digital S&D Series.

 

On the local Ohio circuit, we have 11 different students that have taken home 1st place victories this year: Julia Duong '26, Rida Tahir '27, Hannah Rosenfeld '27, Aleka Dodla '26, Claire Witalec '28, Mia Kwon '28, Caitlyn Vigh '28, Ana Rubio-Calvillo '27, Alissa Mannikin '29, Yamini Sridhar '28, Brooke Prengler '28, Kendall Edge '30, and Christine Krug '31.

 

As a team, Laurel has placed in the top six 8 times this year, including a 1st place finish at the Chagrin Falls Tournament in November.
