Laurel School Junior Hazel Segal Selected for Prestigious Adroit Journal Summer Mentorship Program

Congratulations to Hazel Segal ‘27, who has been accepted into the highly competitive Adroit Journal Summer Mentorship Program. This international program pairs established, award-winning writers with high school and college students for a rigorous, six-week intensive focused on the craft of poetry, fiction, or spoken word.

Selected from a global pool of thousands of applicants, Hazel joins a select cohort of emerging Fiction writers. The Adroit Journal Summer Mentorship Program is renowned for its selectivity and its mission to bridge the gap between talented young writers and the professional literary world. Under the guidance of an experienced mentor, Hazel will spend the summer honing her voice, refining her portfolio, and engaging with a community of peers from around the world.
This latest achievement follows Hazel’s participation in the University of Iowa Young Writers' Workshop last summer.

Hazel’s dual acceptance into these elite programs underscores her commitment to literary excellence. At Laurel, Hazel has been an active contributor to the school’s literary life as a decorated member of Laurel's JustWrite team and co-founder of a poetry magazine, The Poet Laurelate.

Founded in 2010 by poet Peter LaBerge, The Adroit Journal has become a leading platform for contemporary literature, featuring work from both Pulitzer Prize winners and emerging talents. The Summer Mentorship Program is a cornerstone of the journal’s commitment to fostering the next generation of writers.
