Dr. Rachel Herlein Talks About Parent Involvement at School in Cleveland Jewish News

Dr. Rachel Herlein, Associate Head of Laurel, was featured in the Cleveland Jewish News story, “When Parents Become Involved, Everyone Can Benefit.” The story examines the numerous benefits of face-to-face involvement at school, whether it involves attending academic showcases, performances, or athletic events, or actively participating by serving as a guest speaker. She says these experiences help parents understand what their children navigate each day, and brings insight into how their children grow and learn. 

“When parents and educators work side by side, students see trust in action – and that trust becomes the foundation for their confidence and growth,” said Dr. Herlein. “When parents show their trust in the program and respect for the professionals guiding their child’s education, students internalize a powerful message: that school is a place where they are safe, valued, and supported.”

Dr. Herlein also discussed how a parent’s presence can enhance communication. “When parents meet teachers in person, discussions about progress or challenges are grounded in mutual understanding rather than quick email exchanges
