Wellbeing Together: Supporting the Physical & Nutritional Health of Young Women

Summary: I created Wellbeing Together, a mixed media platform on Substack focused on health and wellness as it relates to teenage girls.
I recognized that the majority of online health and wellness content consumed by teen girls is often toxic, rooted in diet culture, full of misinformation, or overly generalized. This barrage of contradictory advice leads to information fatigue, causing many to quit their health journey before they even start. There is so much out there that must be sorted through (true/false, works for me, etc.) before someone can even start their health journey. I wanted to simplify the process for teen girls. If they want help making lifestyle changes or educating themselves more about health and wellness, they should have access to the information. My goal was not to tell girls what to do, but to provide them with a platform where they can educate themselves if they choose to do so.
Originally, my project began as a personal blog where I wrote about finding joy in the little things in life as well as broader topics like family, nutrition, and mental health. I experimented with content creation and promotion of my blog on Instagram, which led me to my continued interest in marketing. I pivoted several times throughout my project, attempting to fulfill my desire to provide education in a hands-off way. In the end, I returned to my original focus: creating an online platform that truly reflected my interests in health and wellness and in providing a space for self-education.
This project has allowed me to discover a deeper love for writing and educating others, and a renewed passion for wellness. Throughout this process, I gained the confidence to pursue what genuinely interests me. One of the most important takeaways from this was that making a difference doesn’t have to be loud or STEM-related. It can emerge from being authentic and passionate, impacting others who feel the same as you.
I am so grateful to my Capstone experience for challenging me to become more comfortable in my interests, fostering a deeper love of learning, and creating a passion to educate others.
