Outdoor Prekindergarten

Laurel’s Outdoor Prekindergarten was the first of its kind in Northeast Ohio and allows significant outdoor hands-on learning for four- and five-year-old students that combines a play-based curriculum, nature immersion, current early childhood research, and personalized learning opportunities. This outdoor curriculum empowers students to become engaged and confident while learning in the forest. There is no bad weather, just bad gear!

Grades 3-5

Here at Butler, learning happens outdoors, and all year long Laurel’s Third-Fifth Graders dive into an innovative curriculum that invites them to grapple with concepts from multiple perspectives. These students based at Butler develop intellectual strengths, academic skills, and resilience as they deepen their engagement with the environment through inquiry-based studies of the Campus. Studying in yurts, in gardens and in the forest while traversing the campus using our bicycle fleet, are a few of the reasons why this experience for 8-11-year-old girls is unmatched by any other in Northeast Ohio.

Environmental Justice Semester

The Environmental Justice Semester (EJS) is a semester-long, academic program open to Tenth and Eleventh Grade girls from any public, private, parochial, or charter school in Northeast Ohio. This learner-centered semester has its homebase in the Fairmount House of the campus—a great place for students to access the terrestrial, aquatic, and agricultural ecosystems of the campus. These student changemakers devise solutions for the environmental and social challenges facing urban Cleveland.
