  • A Message from Primary School, K-Grade 2, Leadership

Dear Kindergarten, First and Second Grade Families,

Thank you for making our Primary School Halloween celebrations such a wonderful success this past week!

The energy, creativity, and community spirit were absolutely infectious, starting with the spooky-good fun at Saturday’s Halloween Extravaganza. It was wonderful to see so many of you there!

Today’s main event—the Primary Halloween Parade—was truly unforgettable. It was heartwarming to see the sheer delight on the students' faces as they changed into their creative costumes and paraded down the hallway. Seeing so many families line the parade route, cheering them on with such enthusiasm, made the moment magical for everyone involved.

Your active support and enthusiastic participation are what make these shared experiences so meaningful. Thank you again for bringing your wonderful energy to the celebrations and helping us build such a vibrant community!

    Warmly,

    Bella Patel
Director of Early Childhood and Primary Schools
  • Important Reminders:

    • Carline: Please remember that K-2 and 3-5 cars are in the same carline past the Early Childhood Circle. K-2 cars should wait in the mixed carline until they get past the Early Childhood Circle driveway where 3-5 cars turn in. Please do not block school driveways when waiting in the carline.
    • Warm Layers: Students should have the necessary uniform items at school to stay warm during the school day—sweaters or sweatshirts in solid white, navy blue or forest green. Sweaters must be in a cardigan or crew-neck style with or without a Laurel logo. Laurel-branded sweaters or sweatshirts (including fleece) may be worn with the uniform as well. Outdoor gear does not have to be uniform colors and should be sent with students daily as we spend time outdoors most every day.
    • Please keep a pair of boots at school as the field can be wet at recess time.
    • Every student should have a full change of clothes in her cubby/locker. The extra clothes should be close to uniform (solid colors—khaki, navy, forest green, white), but do not have to be an actual uniform.
    • Label all your student’s clothing items so that we can help get clothing returned to the right person. Remember that all her uniform items look identical to every other student’s.
  • Conference Sign-up for November 7

Primary conferences are student-led and an excellent opportunity for each student to practice her presentation skills. Teachers will help prepare the students for conferences by asking them to reflect on their own learning and school experience. They will focus on each student’s Ownership of Learning and setting personal and academic goals. Report cards will be posted to MyLaurel on November 4. To ensure these conferences are as meaningful as possible, we ask that parents come prepared by reviewing their child's report and thinking through a few questions to help guide the conversation.

Registering for conferences will happen via MyLaurel. Once you are logged in, click “Resources” on the top menu bar, then click the “Conference Registration” tile. This link provides more information about how to register. You will notice that this system allows you to see all your students’ conferences simultaneously so you can better coordinate signing up for multiple conferences.

Registration for conferences will close on Wednesday, November 5. If you need to change your time after that date, please contact Michelle Ramirez at mRamirez@LaurelSchool.org.

There are no classes on Friday, November 7, but students are expected to attend their conference.
  • Bring Your Friend to School Day for Grades 1-8—November 24

Does your First through Eighth Grade daughter have a friend at another school who is curious about an all-girls’ education? Invite her to spend the day at school with your Laurel girl on Monday, November 24 from 8:00am - 3:00pm. She will experience the power of interdisciplinary and experiential curriculum while meeting your daughter’s Laurel friends! Please complete the registration form by Monday, November 17. This is a favorite event in the Laurel community–space is limited, and we may not be able to accommodate every request. Please note that Laurel will not be able to provide before- or after-school care for visitors; guests in Grades 1 and 2 will be at Laurel for a half-day experience.
