Dr. Lisa Damour Featured in Unicef.org

Dr. Lisa Damour, Executive Director of Laurel's Center for Research on Girls, weighs in on how to keep your child motivated during the pandemic,
what to do to help protect your child's mental health, and more in a Unicef.org video.

In addition, a Sun News Online piece, which focused on the surprising benefits of anxiety, included comments from Dr. Damour from a 2019 presentation she gave at the American Psychological Association (APA) annual convention. She acknowledged the beneficial role stress and anxiety could play in our everyday lives, noting that the stress and anxiety inherent in taking on a challenge and working to the edge of our abilities can make us stronger and more resilient. Dr. Damour also said that moderate stress and anxiety levels could have an inoculating function, leading to higher than average resilience. Examples of anxiety helping to build resilience may occur when you start a new job or take on a more challenging role at work.
