Speech and Debate Continues with Strong Season
Laurel’s Speech and Debate team has had a busy November starting with Asal Mohammadi ‘27 finishing the Perry Tournament with a 6-0 record and earning 1st place out of 101 Lincoln-Douglas debaters. She also earned a bid to the State Tournament! Claire Sheeler ‘25 placed 4th in United States Extemporaneous Speaking and also earned a bid to States.
The team competed at the Hawken Tournament on November 9 where, among many top six place awards, Ella Witalec ‘25 earned 1st place in United States Extemporaneous Speaking and a bid to States.
On November 16 the team finished 2nd in the small school sweepstakes at Copley, with many students earning recognition. Brooke Prengler ‘28 finished as Top Novice in United States Extemporaneous Speaking, Abby Vasu ‘28 and Rana Abdelhadi ‘28 finished 2nd Top Novice in Public Forum Debate, and Aleka Dodla ‘26 and Hannah Rosenfeld ‘27 had a 2nd place finish in Public Forum Debate, earning a bid to States. This was also the first tournament of the year that included Middle School students.
