Heather Havre Named a Notable Leader in Education by Crain’s Cleveland Business

Congratulations to Heather Havre, Director of Laurel's Primary School Grades 3-5 Program at Butler, who has been named a Notable in Education Leadership by Crain's Cleveland Business!
Heather turned lemons into lemonade in 2020 by creating a unique outdoor learning environment for Laurel School’s Butler Campus, which allowed its 80 third- to fifth-graders to return to full-time learning despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. “By utilizing existing spaces and adding learning yurts, students were able to learn in person,” the nomination said. Well-received by families, Butler’s outdoor program became
permanent. Heather has since mobilized a team, built a series of community gardens, and worked with donors to secure 80 bicycles for Butler students to use on Campus.

A Laurel alum with a master’s degree in education from John Carroll University, Havre is a 20-year career educator and administrator. She also is a longtime parishioner of St. Dominic Catholic Church in Shaker Heights and volunteers at St. Herman’s House. Our Head of School Ann V. Klotz said it best: “Heather Havre is an extraordinary educator who never loses sight of the value of curiosity and wonder in our students’ learning. She is deeply committed to her students and staff, tirelessly working to maximize opportunities for our students to learn in and about the natural world.”
