Dan McGee Draws Upon Teacher Experience and Interests to Help Design Curriculum in eSchoolNews

Dan McGee, Laurel's Director of Technology and Library Services, recently published a piece in eSchoolNews highlighting the autonomy teachers at Laurel have to contribute to original curriculum planning.
Dan states that "When a school is fortunate to have exceptional teachers with diverse backgrounds, those teachers can draw on their experiences and interests to create a strong, engaging, and original curriculum." Dan focuses on diverse staff with unique interests and creative mentality, all of which translate into special opportunities for learners of all ages. "The curriculum reflects research on the power of growth mindset, best practices for girls, and proven approaches for introducing girls to the fascinating world of STEM and STEAM professions." Dan cites Laurel's Middle School robotics program and award-winning FIRST LEGO League Team as one example. The program was developed by an instructional technologist who saw a need to provide an opportunity to students in this area.
