Laurel Alumna Dr. Cheryl Jackson Johnson ‘95 Interviewed in Forum 360

Dr. Cheryl Jackson Johnson ‘95, an OBGYN with Summa Healthcare Systems, was featured in a Forum 360 piece focused on Infant mortality rates. Dr. Johnson highlights how in sixth grade, while attending Laurel School, she discovered she wanted to be a physician.
From Laurel she went on to attend Hampton University and then The Ohio State University for Medical School. She leads a 30-minute discussion about infant mortality rates, which, according to recent statistics, are higher in Ohio. Some of the leading causes of infant mortality rates include pre-term birth (delivering before 37 weeks), medical factors of the mothers like hypertension and diabetes during the pregnancy, and safe sleep practices. Dr. Johnson focuses on race and infant mortality in her practice. The show aired on PBS/Fusion channel and was also selected to be the featured show on another sister station.
